Let’s Go Outside in Fez in 2019: Palais Amani Unveil New Hiking and New Cooking School Packages

December 3, 2018

Fez has become one of Morocco’s most visited cities thanks to new flights from across Europe. Fez is Morocco’s second largest city and most visitors come for the unique medina, Africa’s largest. Fez's UNESCO World Heritage medina is truly extraordinary and Palais Amani is the perfect hotel to stay at and is located at one of the most significant entrances to this magical world. Palais Amani have unveiled two new packages that showcase the very best of Fez with local knowledge both inside and outside the medina.

OUTSIDE the medina – Hiking in the Zalagh Hillside Range
Leaving the medina behind and heading towards the countryside, an altogether different Fez is visible. A 30-minute drive with a chauffeur / guide gets guests to the Zalagh hillside. Over the next 3.5 hours guests will experience Berber life where many here are completely self-sufficient using the land. A leisurely hike allows guests to stop and embrace the stunning views of the entire ancient city of Fez in the distance and the surrounding landscapes including the Sebou Valley, Rif Mountains and Sais Plains. Half-way through the hike and under some pine trees a Moroccan picnic is served. Priced €195.00 per person includes transport, guide and picnic and chilled water.

INSIDE the medina – Mastering the Art of Moroccan Cuisine
The Fez Cooking School is home to a new purpose-built cookery school on Palais Amani's roof terrace with wonderful views over the medina. This new three-night stay includes a guided souk visit to gather ingredients, street food tasting and a visit to a communal oven, a very common activity in Fez. Guests will embark on a tagine masterclass over two half days and enjoy a meal on each day. Guests will also learn to bake bread, visitors soon notice that bread is very important in Morocco and served with each meal essentially to gather up food and sauce. A unique Moroccan tea ceremony is also taught and performed. Each guest also enjoys a traditional hammam treatment on the last day before leaving with a full set of recipes. Priced €930.00 based on two guests sharing a luxury double room including breakfast.

Home to 18 suites and bedrooms, this art deco building was partly rebuilt in the 1930s and today offers a restaurant, roof top bar and cookery school and hammam, all open to non-residents also. Palais Amani showcases the finest authentic and traditional Moroccan decoration. A large garden of 600m2 is at the centre of the palace filled with orange trees where birds, permanent residents here, provide the birdsong in this tranquil haven.
