Adventure and Recipes at the Fez Cooking School – Guided foodie tours of Africa’s Largest Medina

Fez continues to shine as Morocco's foodie destination. Fez is Morocco’s second city and its UNESCO World Heritage medina is truly extraordinary. Inside this medina is the art deco Palais Amani that was partly rebuilt in the 1930s. The hotel is home to 18 bedrooms and suites, a roof terrace, a cookery school, a restaurant, a library, a garden and a hammam.

 

The Fez Cooking School offers visitors to Fez a unique insight into this magical city combining a foodie tour of the medina followed by a cookery class, all in a purpose-built cookery school on Palais Amani's roof terrace with stunning views.

 

Private and group workshops are available and offer a wonderful hands-on experience including time in the medina and then cooking. The guest selects their desired recipes or the Fez Cooking School suggest a selection of Fassi, Moroccan or Sephardic dishes.

  

The experience unfolds as follows and is priced €97 per person over four hours:

 

Head into the medina with a chef where guests feel and taste the bustle of everyday life

During time in the medina guests gather ingredients and meet local traders

Back to the Fez Cooking School, up to Palais Amani's rooftop where a hands-on cooking class begins

With a chef over 2 hours guests prepare a 3-course meal following detailed recipes

Round off the cooking class with a relaxing lunch or dinner under the citrus trees

Take home a detailed recipe sheet and an apron

 

The Fez Cooking School offers guests a diverse menu of dishes to prepare under the guidance of a chef. Starters include Bissara (bean soup), Carrots with Charmoula, Moroccan bread or Zaalouk (aubergine dip). Mains include Chicken Tajine, Chicken Pastilla, Slow cooked Fish Tajine and desserts include Baghrir and Semolina Ghriba (small coconut cakes).

 

This summer a 'Healthy Moroccan’ workshop will be unveiled celebrating the benefits of some of the spices, oils and ingredients that are used in Moroccan cuisine.

 

10,000 streets and alleys all full of history, places to explore, dine and snack at. But where to begin? Aside from a foodie tour, guests at Palais Amani can also explore the UNESCO Medina with a local guide. Only approved guides are allowed to show visitors around, largely due to the fact that the medina is so so big. A local guide will guide visitors on a half day or full day tour of this magical medina and introduce guests to hidden gems. Priced from €40 for 4 hours based on two guests.

 

With guaranteed adventure and recipes, guests take home more than just memories.
