BERD’S Design Hotel is an independent 5-star hotel located in the heart of Moldova’s capital; Chisinau. It is the first design hotel in Moldova. The hotel launched in 2015 and is home to 33 suites and bedrooms. Each has its own distinct character showcasing Moldova’s heritage through selected pieces of furniture and interior design items.
Throughout the hotel, guests will experience elegant simplicity. The owners have combined both Moldovan heritage and Italian design with architect Luca Scacchetti and his architecture bureau. A varied collection of artworks across the hotel incorporates local and international pieces. Moldovan ceramics, carpets and sculptures further enhance the design experience.
The hotel’s Mezzo Italian Restaurant offers seasonal ingredients including white truffles throughout the autumn, winter greens in the winter, asparagus in the spring and black truffles in the summer. Classical dishes like homemade pasta and risotto are inspired by recipes from across Italy. The restaurant’s wine list is extensive and does of course feature some of the most famous Moldovan wines. The restaurant offers breakfast, lunch, brunch and dinner daily until 23.00. Executive Chef Roman Batin was born in Chisinau and has spent time working with Gordon Ramsay at the Savoy and at leading international restaurants including in St. Petersburg at Russian Fishing. His ultimate goal is to bring the first Michelin Star to Moldova.
BERD’S Art Lounge is open throughout the day from coffee time to cocktail time. The Art Lounge is a place to relax, grab a book and enjoy the warm environment.
The Spa at BERD’S offers a wide selection of treatments and the latest facilities. A hammam & sauna is available, an infrared sauna & Himalayan salt room, a jacuzzi pool and Kneipp therapy. The salt room is an ideal aid in detoxifying the respiratory system, promoting better breathing and sounder sleep. Kneipp therapy is based on the contrast of the temperature between hot and cold water. The Kneipp pool consists of divided bowls filled with cold and hot water. By stepping from one bowl into another, the arteries widen, leading to increased blood circulation in the legs. A fitness room is also available with the latest Technogym equipment.
Owners Dorian and Lucia Berdos comment: “Being a couple of experienced travellers, we always seek in a hotel a combination of design that excites the eye and comfort that truly make you feel relaxed. We believe that BERD’S Design Hotel unites those moments, as the atmosphere of its surroundings defines its design and it makes you feel our beautiful country, Moldova. We raise awareness of the Moldovan culture and the local traditions, which we present in a completely unique way.”
Moldova’s capital Chisinau is just a three-hour direct flight from London. This route has recently seen an increase in capacity with both the national airline increasing the number of flights and Wizz Air basing a second aircraft at the airport. Chisinau’s location at the heart of the country means everywhere is accessible for a day trip. The pace in the city is laid-back but everything here revolves around food and wine. Chisinau has a population of around 700,000 and in 1918 it became Moldova’s capital and has been the capital again since 1991.
On the map, Moldova looks like a bunch of ripe grapes, which is no coincidence: Moldova has the highest percentage of land dedicated to vineyards in the world. As one of the least visited countries in the world, Moldova will surprise and intrigue visitors at every turn, leaving visitors with unforgettable memories and unique stories to tell friends.
The city was almost destroyed in World War II and has been invaded many times but today its many parks and street festivals make this a warm, exciting and welcoming city. The city combines Stalinist architecture mixed with some brutal modernism from the later Soviet period. Architecture fans will be in paradise as they discover the changing face of a city. A small yet vibrant art scene also awaits visitors and a great place to start is at Art Gallery Alexander featuring sculptures, oil paintings and jewellery. The Centrul Expozitional Constantin Brancusi is one of the largest galleries in the city with both national and international exhibitions and well worth a visit.
B&B is priced from €135 per room per night for a Superior Room to from €400 per night for the Prestige Suite.
